After graduating college, news spread nearly across all of America that Keller was the first deaf-blind person to graduate college. Keller was a big celebrity and a good lecturer. She worked with others that were disabled, helping them communicate and learn much more. She also testified before Congress, advocating to improve welfare of the blind. Keller helped find the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920. Keller became a member of the American Federation for the Blind in 1924. She participated in many of their campaigns to spread awareness, raise money, and support the blind. Unfourtunately in 1936, Keller's beloved teacher, Anne Sullivan, died. She experienced health problems, lost complete eyesight and eventually died. Keller made her autobiography, The Story of My Life. In 1961, Keller also experienced health problems and suffered many strokes. She unfourtunately died in her sleep on June 1, 1968.
